Preparing your Content for Social Sharing

Preparing Your Content for Facebook Sharing

  1. I understand "shaping Your content for Facebook" to mean crafting your Facebook post in order for it to have more meaning.
  2. In other words, understanding that Facebook is a social media platform that allows you to casually post your ideas to your friends and family. As such, you should also be mindful that random strangers can also see what you post, and you should be careful as to the type of content that is okay to be seen by the public and content that should only be seen by the people on your friends list.
  3. An example of shaping Your content for Facebook would be my friend who wants to invite her friends and family members to her birthday party. The easiest way to do this would be through Facebook where she’s friends with everyone she wants to invite. However, before she hits the “post” button, she double checks to make sure that her privacy setting is set for “friends only” meaning that only the people she’s “friended” will be able to see and comment on her invitation post.

Preparing Your Content for Twitter Sharing

  1. I understand "shaping Your content for Twitter" to mean creating your Twitter post in order for it to have more of an impact.
  2. In other words, understanding that Twitter is a social media platform that only allows for a limited amount of text to get your point across. With a 280 character count limit, you really have to chose what you say carefully not with just the content of what you say but with your character limit as well.
  3. An example of shaping Your content for Twitter would be my friend taking the time to think about how to properly comment on a tweet someone made about a movie coming out. Not only thinking about what to say, but also thinking about how to use the minimal amount of words as possible in order to actually post a tweet with the 280 character maximum limit.

Preparing Your Content for Pinterest Sharing

  1. I understand "shaping Your content for Pinterest" to mean composing your Pinterest post in order for it to look interesting enough to click on.
  2. In other words, putting effort and care into the art/design/clothing/project you wish to show off on Pinterest. Then, uploading it to Pinterest and sharing the post with people who have similar interests so that they will share your work with others.
  3. An example of shaping Your content for Pinterest would be my friend drawing fan art of an anime show she really likes. Taking the time to make adjustments and touch-ups before uploading it onto Pinterest to show off her work to fellow anime lovers.

Preparing Your Content for Instagram Sharing

  1. I understand "shaping Your content for Instagram" to mean editing your Instagram post in order for it to look more appealing.
  2. In other words, taking the best photo that you can, one that represents you or your interests. Then choosing an aesthetic filter that will enhance the beauty of your photo. Finally, writing a clever caption to share your thoughts on the photo, and sharing your post to your friends and family.
  3. An example of shaping Your content for Instagram would be my friend posting a picture of herself at the beach with a beautiful sunset on the horizon. She'll take a picture. Then she'll take some time to choose a good filter that will help enhance the beauty of the picture, in a way that more people will like comment on it. She'll then think of a clever and fun caption to post along with the photo.

The purpose of the assignment is to better understand why you should prepare the type of content you post on social media.

The key question at the heart of the assignment is how can you use this information for your future social media posts?

Week 5 - Collaborative Connections

What is the purpose of a collaborative connection? The purpose of a collaborative connection is to meet people with similar goals and/or interests in order to create bonds to help each other achieve their goals. Collaborative connections, as I interpret it, a community of like-minded people reaching out to others just like themselves on social media and creating bonds and sub-communities. People connecting online and supporting each other in a positive way and thus working together to achieve a common goal. For example, a group of cancer survivors or friends and families of cancer patients can form a sub-community online to connect with each other. Consoling and comforting those in times of great hard-ships, and maybe organizing events to help raise awareness or money for families in dire need. If you decided to make a collaborate connection online what would happen? Ideally, what I would want to happen would be to maybe create a connection online, I would want people to of cours...

Week 10 - Essential Questions About Sharing

What do you take for granted or assume about sharing? What I assume/take for granted about sharing is the idea that people who post stuff online, usually do it to be heard and seen. Whether it be for their close friends and families, or on a more public platform. In some extreme cases, some people will post stuff online in hopes to become internet famous, or the next big influencer. In other words, people use social media to share their thoughts and opinions on various topics. People also use social media as a way to “show off” a window into their lives. The food they’re eating, where they visited, who they hang out with, all get shared on social media. Most do it for fun or recreationally, while others do it as their main source of income, or try to. For example, a woman by the name of  Lissette Calveiro ,  put herself into $10,000 in debt trying to become an Instagram influencer. She bought expensive clothes, and traveling to different locations all for Instagram. T...

Week 5 - Intellectual Standards Part 2

Depth 1. I understand "depth" to mean providing a deeper meaning of a subject.   2. In other words, a statement that goes beyond just a simple explanation. Instead, providing it's purpose and underlying concepts hidden between the lines.   3. An example of someone exhibiting depth with social media would be my friend on YouTube talking about a specific book, movie, or video game that she really loves. She will give a brief description of the topic in question, then she will give her own opinions and/or give her own interpretations of the work to her viewers.   Breadth 1. I understand "breadth" to mean allowing for interpretations from different points of view. 2. In other words, creating an open discussion on certain topics and subjects. Thus allowing people to voice their own opinions from all perspectives instead of focusing on one insight over all others.  3. An example of someone exhibiting breadth with social media would be my frien...
