Week 5 - Collaborative Connections

What is the purpose of a collaborative connection? The purpose of a collaborative connection is to meet people with similar goals and/or interests in order to create bonds to help each other achieve their goals. Collaborative connections, as I interpret it, a community of like-minded people reaching out to others just like themselves on social media and creating bonds and sub-communities. People connecting online and supporting each other in a positive way and thus working together to achieve a common goal. For example, a group of cancer survivors or friends and families of cancer patients can form a sub-community online to connect with each other. Consoling and comforting those in times of great hard-ships, and maybe organizing events to help raise awareness or money for families in dire need. If you decided to make a collaborate connection online what would happen? Ideally, what I would want to happen would be to maybe create a connection online, I would want people to of cours...

Week 4 - Intellectual Standards

INTELLECTUAL STANDARDS Clarity I understand "clarity" to mean to be clear and understandable. In other words, being easy to follow and understand so that the viewers can follow along. You can also achieve clarity by asking questions when something is unclear or can be easily misunderstood. An example of someone exhibiting clarity with social media would be my friend advertising for a fundraiser on Facebook. My friend would then give the details of what the fundraiser is for, when/where it is going to be, and other information. This way everyone will be on the same page and will know what to expect should they wish to participate. Let's also say that I don't know how to get to the location, I would then ask, "How do you get to the fundraiser?" or something like that and my friend will then post detailed directions so that everyone will know how to get there. Accuracy I understand "accuracy" to mean as factually correct as possible. In other wor...

Week 8 - The Art of C&@* Detection

"Almost nothing is about what you think it is about--including you." With the possible exception of those human encounters that Fritz Peris calls "intimacy," all human communications have deeply embedded and profound hidden agendas. Most of the conversation at the top can be assumed to be bullshit of one variety or another. An idealist usually cannot acknowledge his own bullshit, because it is in the nature of his "ism" that he must pretend it does not exist. In fact, I should say that anyone who is devoted to an "ism"--Fascism, Communism, Capital-ism--probably has a seriously defective crap-detector. This is especially true of those devoted to "patriotism." Santha Rama Rau has called patriotism a squalid emotion. I agree. Mainly because I find it hard to escape the conclusion that those most enmeshed in it hear no bullshit whatever in its rhetoric, and as a consequence are extremely dangerous to other people. If you doubt this, I want ...
